Making Time
Hey there - I know I haven't been posting on this blog very frequently. No excuses, just wanted to let you know that I have been giving it a lot of thought and it's definitely something I feel bad about. I have post ideas in my head and for some reason executing them isn't happening lately. My focus has been more on other projects - my client work (there are some really cool projects in the works that I cannot wait to share and then there are others that I just can't share for confidentiality reasons). Also I have been putting a lot of energy and resources into building my YouTube channel. Making videos used to fall into one of two categories for me:
I'm getting paid to do it. If I am getting paid to make a video, for example, for a class/workshop or client, then I will invest the time into doing so. I used to make videos for Two Peas in A Bucket once a month, and occasionally for Studio Calico. I made 12 videos for my online workshop with Kelly Purkey called Here & There Inspiration last spring.
It's for me and it's fun. JC and I got a flip camera back in 2009 and it was fun to experiment with on our travels. He made a video of this awesome trip that I still love to watch on occasion. He made a pretty hilarious video of my friend Kelly (Happy Birthday, by the way!) and he also made this video of my little brochure trick. I have since made our travel videos with everything from an iPod Touch to a Harenezumi to my iPhone. And of course when Jack came into the world, I had to record videos of him.
Anyway, behind the scenes, we are on a mission to combine the two categories. It's going to be a slow and steady process of creating video content consistently. For me to take the time to practice, shoot a lot of footage, get more efficient overall and feel more comfortable in front of the camera. I want to make sure I feel the creative freedom to experiment with different formats. My goal is to create videos that people want to watch, yet not get too bogged down about the fact that I don't have the expensive gear, white studio space, and budgets that I may like to have. I want to use the resources I have at my disposal right now and not worry about too many of the details that would prevent me from sharing things I want to share. The responses for the field trips + crafting videos have had a wonderful response! It means so much to me and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about getting negative comments on YouTube. Fortunately the feedback has overall been extremely positive and encouraging. Honestly if I don't like something, I don't watch it. I don't even take the time to comment rudely much less hit the thumbs down button. But that's just me. I wouldn't normally even have brought this up, but perhaps the risk of judgement is something that has been holding you back from putting yourself out there. I'm normally a pretty optimistic and happy person and I hope that's what I am able to exemplify online. And I am taking a chance by putting myself out there, more and more, but this is something I want to do. I want to share even more with you all. Videos take a long time to make. Period. But there is so much I want to show you all... so many things, from what I'm doing, learning, making, creating, and experiencing. And hopefully you all will take the time to come along for the ride, and even enjoy it as well!
I guess this was a very long winded explanation to let you know that I want to make the time to share more with you all, both here, on Instagram and on my YouTube channel. So thank you if you've made it this far, for reading this and all my other ramblings.
Still trying to spread more love and motivation for each of your Mondays this year. I'm still using this watercolor set from Michaels and a brush that says Royal 2 on it which came from a multi-pack and according to a couple of my awesome readers (Elaine and Debbie) is available at some Michaels and some Joann stores. Elaine said it is "Packaged by Royal and Langnickel. 30 brushes in the set, 10 for oil paints, 10 for watercolor and 10 for acrylics." Yay!
